Ep 23 | ‘Cry Like a Man’: Fighting Emotional Incarceration in Black America with Jason Wilson

Jason Wilson, who runs the Cave of Adullam Transformational Training Academy (CATTA) in Detroit, Michigan, has a new book titled ‘Cry Like a Man: Fighting for Freedom from Emotional Incarceration’. We discuss the lynching of Jason’s grandfather, the murder of his brother, his mother's battles with depression and how generational trauma in the black community has misconstrued masculinity. We also discuss CATTA and why Jason left a successful music production career in the 90’s–making records for the likes of Kurupt, The Dogg Pound, and Redman–to pursue a life dedicated to saving boys through faith and martial arts.

KING Talks Ep 22 | Brandon Porter II

On the latest K.I.N.G. Talks, we have guest Brandon Porter II, discussing his book If Obama Had a Son—which we wrote at age 19. We discuss the implications of legacy in the father-son relationship and why the question ‘If Obama Had a Son?’ offers hope for young black men in America. Brandon also responds to criticism that the book title has sexist undertones and why that is a false representation of the book’s message. We also discuss Brandon’s upbringing as a Pastor’s kid, community parenting in the church, and advice for young people setting goals.
