The K.I.N.G. SHIELD

The K.I.N.G. Shield represents the mission of The K.I.N.G. Movement - to make men and boys Strong in The Lord Jesus Christ. Each of the four symbols in the center of the shield typifies an element of The Movement. The Bible symbolizes Knowledge. The lightning bolt striking the brain of the male silhouette means Inspiration. The hands cupping the heart exemplify Nurture, and the cross stands for God.
The cross is slightly different from those typically found in Western Christianity and bears some resemblance to the elaborate crosses of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. This is purposeful and connects the men of The K.I.N.G. Movement to their African Christian forefathers, many of whom are highlighted in the pages of the New Testament and many of whom began serving Jesus Christ in the years immediately following Christ’s glorious ascension, as evidenced by the fact that Ethiopia is one of the world’s oldest Christian nations.
The curved, double-edged swords surrounding the shield are symbolic of the Word of God (Hebrews 4:12). Known as shotels, the swords originated in Ethiopia several millennia ago and are another nod to the rich Christian heritage of Africa and to the founding members of The K.I.N.G. Movement, all of whom were African American.
